About the Library

Mission & Policies

The Research Library plays an integral role in supporting Board research, monetary and financial stability policy, data governance, regulation and supervision through its:

  • Provision of information services in support of the work quality and efficiency of Board staff
  • Creation of metadata, development of taxonomies and enhancements to search capabilities, which connect staff to the Board’s research and data collections
  • Proactive acquisition of data and content to provide the highest quality research tools to inform decisions
  • Efforts to increase the visibility and measure the impact of Board publications

Information on the library’s current projects can be found in our Program Budget.

Policies

The Research Library aims to be as accommodating as possible to ensure you have access to the resources needed for your projects. In order to make sure we offer the most consistent guidance possible, the Library provides these policies:

ACQUISITIONS

Recommendations for building the library collection are encouraged and are given careful consideration on the basis of overall contribution and cost. The Library’s Collection Development Policy provides guidance in selecting materials and resources to meet the Board’s information needs. Requests for new books and journals should be sent to Ask-a-Librarian@frb.gov. If interested in acquiring new data, consult the New Data Request page for detailed information.

CIRCULATION

Books are charged out for 30 days; bound journals for a two-week loan period; and unbound periodicals for 5 days. Material should be available for immediate recall if needed by another staff member. It is important to notify the Library if material is given to a colleague or if you plan to leave the Board. The Library Catalog can be used to view a list of items charged out in your name, to request material, and to view your reading history. For assistance with this function, contact Ask-a-Librarian@frb.gov, x3333.
