Retention Program (Current DoD Employees)

Eligibility Requirements

  • Active duty military member or permanent DoD civilian employee.
  • U.S. citizen at time of application.
  • High performing individual, rated at the higher levels of the applicable performance system and who demonstrates sustained quality performance with the potential for increased responsibility.
  • Must meet all requirements for acceptance to the specific academic institution within the CAE Framework which has been identified for attendance.

Nomination Procedures

All nomination packages must be unclassified and submitted through appropriate Component personnel channels for graduate education programs.  Individuals must meet their Component-established deadlines; the Components’ deadline for submission to NSA is January 31st. Payback

Military Services members shall serve on active duty while fulfilling designated DoD Component service obligations. DoD civilian employees shall sign a continued service agreement that complies with 10 U.S.C. 2200, prior to commencement of their education, to continue service within the Department of Defense upon conclusion of their education, for a period equal to three times the length of the education period.
